Lola L. Sanders, age 73, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, at her home in Des Moines, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2017, also at Hamilton’s on Lyon, and will conclude with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will hold a luncheon at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, following the burial.
Lola was born February 3, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ralph and Ruth Ashley. She was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. She last worked at Coalition for Domestic Violence and also for AARP through the Veteran’s Hospital. She loved going to Prairie Meadows and playing scratch tickets. Some of her favorite pastimes included crocheting and crossword puzzles. Her grandchildren will fondly remember her trading hugs for candy every time they would visit.
She is survived by her daughters, Monica Phipps and Penny (Jay) Brooks, sisters, Kerry Ashley and Toni Bishop (David Southwick), half-brother, Jimmy Cunningham, ex-husband, Gene Behle, 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ruth Ashley, significant other, William Stephens, daughter, Rocksanna Sheridan, son, Edward Behle, brother, Ralph “Butch” Ashley Jr., sister, Barbara Ashley, nephew, David Walker, niece, Tammy Beerbower, and great-grandson, Antonio Sanchez-Peck.

My heart was saddened to hear of Mz Lolas death,
Sending my love and many prayers out to her daughter n my good friend MzMonica Phipps, love n prayers to all herfamily in these sad days.
May she peace, love, joy, n no pain now as the Lord God holds her in his arms n delivers her to a beautiful rest.
Lord plz be with all of Lolas family after taking thier beloved one home... show them compassion n help them carry thier grief knowing shes in a better brighter painfree home with u now.
Hold them also within ur grasp, til thier grief subsides....
Bless n keep them safe.
Guide them as only u can do , for you are the almighty.
