May 06, 2017
Ronald Allen Prescott, 52, of Des Moines, after a year-long brave battle with pancreatic cancer, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children shortly after midnight on Saturday, May 6, 2017.
Ronald was born on October 24, 1964, in Forest City, to Clayton Sr. and Beverly (Tanner) Prescott of Klemme. He graduated from Klemme High School in 1984. As a teenager, he was a hard worker and spent his time with paper routes and various jobs. On April 14, 1985, he married Jolene Stock from Hampton. Ron was a stay-at-home dad and a cook at Adventureland before becoming a food service worker with the Des Moines Public Schools. Ronald was a devoted father and husband. He enjoyed participating in school events and other activities with his wife and children. Ron was always able to find a good bargain. He would often spend time at auctions and hit up garage sales and thrift stores. He was a huge fan of Scooby-Doo, and also watched collecting and home improvement shows. Ron also had a fun sense of humor and liked to socialize with friends and family. He was active in his church, especially the basement sale and food related activities. He enjoyed caring for his indoor and outdoor cats.
Ronald is survived by his wife Jolene, son Thomas Prescott, daughter Christy Prescott and partner Richard Bolden Sr., daughter Amanda Prescott and partner TJ Smith, and grandson Richard Bolden Jr., all of Des Moines. He is also survived by his brother Clayton Prescott Jr. and wife Roberta of Garner, half-brothers William Prescott and wife Lola of Cleveland, TN, James Prescott and wife Rosalie of Klemme and Sidney Cuellar of Belmond, sister-in-law Sheila (Dean) Prescott of Daly, CA, many nieces and nephews, and also special friends Donna Gilge of Des Moines and Jolene’s sister Judy Dishman of Clear Lake. Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, brother Dean Prescott, and son Cody Allen Prescott.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 412 Euclid Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50313.

I enjoyed talking with Ron at work. He was so brave and such a fighter! He always had a smile and worked so hard to provide a great meal to all of our students. He and I worked together on some of our special diets. It was also so fun to hear about his family- he is so proud of all of you- so much love flowed for you all! Many prayers to all of you for peace and comfort.

Ron always had a smile and a hello. Laughter and cheerful observations were his calling card, even though his luck was not the greatest. He gave a lot to this world, including three wonderful children. Goodbye, Ron, you were one of the good guys and will be sorely missed.
