Nancy started her career working for Southwestern Bell before entering into real estate. She worked for Iowa Realty for many years and then transitioned into real estate appraising and eventually founded Central Iowa Appraisers. She was very proud of her appointment by Governor Terry Branstad to the Iowa State Appraisal Board. She operated Central Iowa Appraisers until her retirement in 2005.

Nancy loved to shop, play the slots, and travel. She always had a positive outlook with a gusto for life. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, putting puzzles together, listening to Elvis and watching the Hawkeyes. She enjoyed learning to fly with her husband, Al, and watching the eagles soar from their home. She enjoyed retiring to their Rancho Mirage, CA home during the winter months. She absolutely loved her granddaughters and spending time with them after school after they got off the bus. She always found time for a glass of red wine.

She is survived by her son, Mark of Urbandale, her son Chad and his wife Amy; granddaughters, Grace and Anna of Johnston; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Alma Larson of St. Charles, MO; many cousins, nieces, nephews, Emy Rose, her Eagle Ridge family, and many other close friends.

She lost her beloved husband, Al, on September 8, 2016. They were to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on April 15, 2017. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Jack and Alice (Sleight) Mauer, Uncle Alva and Aunt Fern Mauer, Uncle Andy and Aunt Ruby Nelson, Ronald and Sandy Nelson, Bailey and Elvis.
