Richard E. Grissom, Sr. was born June 29, 1935, in Blackensburg, Iowa, to David and Nora (Stewart) Grissom.

Dick served in the United States Army. He worked as an over the road truck driver for American Freight and Consolidated Freight until his retirement in 1996.

Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Mission, TX where they resided for 13 years, prior to moving back to Iowa. In his spare time, he loved gardening, camping, woodworking, and going to the auto races with his sons.

Dick passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2017, surrounded by his family at the age of 81.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 8, 2017, also at Hamilton’s, and will conclude with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Following the burial, there will be a reception at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.

Dick is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Shirley Grissom; sons, Richard Grissom, Jr. and Kenny Grissom; grandchildren, Aliss and Elizabeth; great-grandchild, Rylee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Nora Grissom; brother, Pete; and sisters, Lois, Betty, Georgia, and Peggy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in loving memory of Dick.
