Richard “Shoe” Shoemaker, 82, passed away April 27, 2017 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist.
Richard was born May 3, 1934 in Iowa City, Iowa. He loved painting and traveling to visit family and friends.
Richard is survived by his longtime friend, Glenda Kernen; sons, Ed (Laura), Larry, James and Rick Shoemaker; grandchildren, Jacob (fiancé, Jennifer), Joseph, September (Andy), LaRae (Scott) and Jensen; great-granddaughter, Scarlet; siblings, Ernie, Harold and Charlotte; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 12 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Dear Glenda, and all of Richard's family,
I was sorry to hear of Richard's death. He was a good man, always spoke often of all of you, and he did many things to help the church along. Please know that I am thinking of you during this difficult time. You are in our prayers.
