Debbie Fontanini Morlan
April 20, 2017
Deborah Fontanini Morlan, 67, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Sunday, April, 23, 2017 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, April 24, 2017, at St. Anthony's, 15 Indianola Road followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
Debbie was born May 2, 1949, in Des Moines, IA, to Sargio and Bernice Fontanini. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1967 and later attended the University of Iowa. Debbie followed in her father's footsteps with a successful career in the food distribution business recently retiring from Hockenberg Newburgh where her co-workers were like family.
Debbie was well known on the south side where she could be seen walking her 10,000 daily steps along Fleur Drive, golfing at Echo Valley, or at any charity event. She had a unique ability to make genuine connections with everyone she met and her grace and generosity will live in their hearts forever.
Debbie had a strong faith. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church where she was a part of the Altar and Rosary Society and a member of the Catholic Women's League.
Debbie's spirit will live on through her husband of 46 years, Bob, and their sons, Brian and Michael (Lara) and her mother-in-law, Evelyn Morlan. She is survived by her sister, Denise (Jim) Trower, brothers, Greg (Suzie) Fontanini, Chris Fontanini, and John Paul Fontanini. John Paul held a special place in her heart, along with her 9 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sarg and Bernice.
May Debbie live on through your contributions to St. Anthony's School or Christ the King School.

To Debbie's sister Denise and the whole family: I was so saddened to hear of your loss. When I think of Debbie I think of her friendly smile. When you have to make such an unexpected goodbye it's so hard and the shock hasn't fully set in. I pray for comfort for all of you in the days ahead. May God bless you.

Dear Bob
My thoughts are with you and the family. I worked with Debbie for many years in my position at Hawkeye Food Service. I am sure I can speak for all the Hawkeye people that worked with Debbie--she was first class and a great asset to us being successful. I look back fondly on many of the Hawkeye "trips" we took together--. May she be a peace with our savior, Jesus Christ our Lord.in eternal life.

Tears this morning as I read the news of Debbie passing from our Dowling SJA reunion website. I was looking so forward to connecting with Debbie as she is "the light of the room". When she posted our CK 8th grade graduation photo, I almost wrote she deserves the 50th reunion "Congeniality Award" for reaching out to all of us. I am so sorry for the loss in your family. She will be deeply missed but know you have a great lively intercessor in Heaven! God love you all!

I was truly saddened by Bruce's message that Debbie had passed away. Thinking back to my 'Hawkeye days'... Debbie and I were committed and loyal to one another and to the customers we served. We had a great working relationship due to the trust and loyalty we shared. Debbie was simply a joy to be associated with. She was truly one of those that I missed after I left Hawkeye... and I regret she had to leave us at such an early age. My sympathy - and heartfelt prayers - go out to all of you -- her family and friends. God be with her and peace with you. "Shep"
