Don was born April 27, 1942 on a farm in Randalia, Iowa to Timothy and Hazel (Hall) Mahoney. He passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Don graduated in 1960 from Denver, Iowa High School and married Joyce Schlotman in 1963 before going on to serve in the Vietnam War for the United States Army from 1966 – 1968. Don hired on at Northwestern Bell in Waterloo, Iowa in 1962 and retired from U.S. West. He later was hired on at the United States Postal Service and retired from there in 2013.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Daren and Kane Mahoney; daughters, Meghan and Jolyne Mahoney and Kelsey Robbins; grandchildren, Jack Kosidowski, Chloe McGinn, Richard and Annabell Reed; siblings, Richard Mahoney (Val) of Winona, Minnesota and Leroy Mahoney of Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Mahoney; and nephew, Tim Mahoney.
According to Don’s wishes there will be no services.

My mother was mardell Mildred mahoney married to Richard James Conner sons Jeffrey Conner and Jay Conner, Donald Mahoney who visited us in the early 70's in Gilpin county colorado in the mountains with his brother Dickie Mahoney who drove a brown corvette Dicky collected corvettes, anyway I am Jay Conner brother of Jeffrey Conner and I miss Darren Mahoney whom we played with each other in Iowa at Tim Mahoneys house and his wife was Hazel Mahoney mid 70's, 79,80, Olwien Iowa, Timothy Mahoney was my mother's brother and she passed away from cancer 1980 my mother Mardell Conner, maiden name Mahoney, I offer my condolences to the family, but I would like to hear from Darren Mahoney or Kenny Mahoney or Dickie Mahoney or any other Mahoney, there was Timothy Mahoney and Maurice Mahoney, and my mother Mardell Mahoney brothers and sisters all deceased, I am living in Denver Colorado and my phone is 303-726-4486

We are so saddened to hear that Don has passed. He will always be remembered for his ornery personality, his big heart and fun smile. Our sympathy goes out to all who knew and loved him.

he had such a great laugh. not only my Uncle, but like a big brother.
