Mary Catherine Gillespie, age 61, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017, at Fonda Specialty Care in Fonda, Iowa.
Mary was born February 11, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Robert Dee Gillespie and Mildred Genieva (Slayden) Gillespie. She was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Mary graduated from North High School and worked as a dog groomer. She loved her dog, Stinky Lee. Mary had many friends and many people thought of her as a jokester. She was a kind person and would go out of her way to help other people.
She is survived by her three sisters, Frankie “Lynn” Argenal, Valerie Erin (Ed) Rusgrove and Rebecca Gillespie, brother, John Jess Wayne Gillespie, aunt, Wanda McGraw, uncle, Wayne Slayden, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mildred Gillespie.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 14, 2017, also at Hamilton’s, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
