Service Details
Dorothy Elisa Hargis Fry, 97, passed away April 4, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation on Sunday, April 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. and the funeral service on Monday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. with burial at Glendale Cemetery.
Dorothy, born April 1, 1920, the youngest of seven to Mary (Yazel) and Harvey Maxwell. She grew up in Elkhart, IA and worked as a cook in the hospitality industry. She was a wonderful cook and loved to can, garden and make jelly. She raised two sons during WWII and worked in the ammunition plant.
She is survived by her children, Mary (Larry) Bauer, John (Linda), Peggy and Janet Hargis; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, John Hargis and Alfred Fry; all of her siblings; her sons, Ron and Don Dyer; and great-grandchildren, Caleb Hargis and Michelle Dyer.

To the Hargis and Fry Families, Please know that our thoughts and prayer's go out to everyone. I Remember Dorothy fondly for her smile and laughter when she would visit Emma and Leo all those many tears ago out to Elkhart.
