Tom "Harv" Alessio

Tom “Harv” Alessio was born July 11, 1939 in Des Moines to Joseph and Catherine (Renda) Alessio. He passed away March 31, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center at the age of 77.
Tom graduated from Dowling High School in 1957. He married Janet Lillie in 1966. Together they had three children. Tom worked for Polk County General Services for many years. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, LaMachina Club and the Tumea “Bread Club”. Tom enjoyed taking care of his pool and his garden.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet; children, Tom (Jill) Alessio, Jr., Darcy (Tim) Swesey and John (Meg) Alessio; grandchildren, Trey, Tyler, Taryn, Kayla, Karley, Mila, Lily, Addi and Elly; siblings, James (Shirley) Alessio, Emma (Anthony) Madonia, Diane (Norman) Dobson and Helen Alessio; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his best friend, Bob Reid.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Grotto Fund or the American Lung Association.

Janet and family I was so sorry to hear of your loss.
I remember the times when Tom and the guys would meet at the old house on 1st On Friday nights to scoop the loop, or Saturday night to River View Park to see what was going on and Sundays We had Posta after church and the movies down town at the Des Moines Theater or the Paramount. You are and will be missed Tom The memorys I have will last forever, thats why you will always be in my thoughts.
