Helen Janice Johnson

Helen Janice Johnson, 74, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017. She was born October 21, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa to Dorman and Wilma (Hankins) Johnson. She graduated from North High School and completed nursing school in 1971. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years. Helen loved people and was a born caretaker. She was a very giving person and would sacrifice herself for her family and friends without hesitation. Helen treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved animals, especially Chihuahuas, and would proudly tell people about her grandpuppies and grandkitties. She enjoyed going to the movies and bird watching. She was very artistic and expressed those talents through drawing, crocheting, and sewing. She loved to read and was a big dreamer. Helen will be deeply missed by those fortunate enough to have known her.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Heidi (Ron) Hendrickson and Erin (James) Garnmeister; grandchildren, Jenna (Josh) Hill, Chanelle (Rob) Hill, Jordan (Elmer) Climaco, Kale Garnmeister, and Jaxon Garnmeister; great-grandchildren, Aiden Hill, Harley Hill, Derek Climaco, Zaylee Climaco, Annabelle Hill, and Teddy Hill; siblings, Judy (Rick) Kauffman, Margee (Grant) Adkins, Lolly (Boyd) Dansie, and Jim (Tris) Johnson; aunt, Barb (Mac) Marrow; and numerous extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorman and Wilma Johnson and her grandmother, Ester Hankins.
There will be a memorial service from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Lighthouse Community Church, 7705 Indianola Road, Des Moines, IA 50320.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be dispersed at a later date.

I am so sorry to hear of Heen passing. You are so right about Helen going the extra mile for her family and friends. I know she would always go the extra mile for me when we worked together. I have many wonderful memories of Helen. God Bess all of you.
