Lewis “Dude” VanFosson, 88, Mitchellville, Iowa. Died March 25, 2017 at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dude was born in Braddyville, Iowa to James and Stella (Wilson) VanFosson. He graduated from Elmo, MO high school in 1946. He was joined in marriage to Carol Herkelman January 25, 1958. He retired as a mechanic from Yellow Freight Systems. Throughout his life, Dude had been a farmer, truck driver, mechanic, Little League coach, and a volunteer fireman. He loved to tease and joke. The family is grateful that he was able to laugh and make them laugh even on his last day.
Dude is survived by his wife Carol; sons Marion (Kathryn) VanFosson, Fayetteville, NC; James (Kimberly) VanFosson, Altoona, IA; Tim (Sharon) VanFosson, Iowa City, IA; and daughter Mary (Larry) Weatherall, Des Moines, IA; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is survived also by his brother, Lowell (Dorothy) VanFosson, Maryville, MO; sisters-in-law Ruth VanFosson, Maryville, MO; and Billie VanFosson, Shenandoah, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
Dude was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Glen, Raymond, Arthur, Marvin and sister, Hazel Estes.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, March 27, 2017, at Mitchellville Funeral Home, 303 Center Avenue S, Mitchellville, IA. Funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the United Methodist Church, 200 2nd Street NW, Mitchellville. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Mitchellville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Mitchellville United Methodist Church or the Mitchellville Fire Department.

Carol my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I will have only good memories of my buddy Dude. He was as he would say " I'm a good ole boy." Yes he was. I'm in Phoenix so I will be unable to be at the service. God bless!
