Alice N. Metten

Alice Naomi Johnson Metten, 88, of 2571 Guthrie, Des Moines, Iowa, was born in Centerville, Iowa, August 19, 1928. She was the only child born to Ora Davis Johnson Golden. She graduated from high school in Swan, Iowa. Alice worked at Younker’s Department Store in downtown Des Moines until her retirement August 1, 1982. She married Fred “Fritz” Metten April 12, 1975. They were together until his death in 1993. Alice passed away peacefully Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Valley View Village in Des Moines.
Survivors include step-daughter, Linda Jacobs of Runnells, Iowa, step-daughter, Peggy Metten of Des Moines, Iowa, and step-daughter-in-law, Connie Metten of Ankeny, Iowa. Survivors also include grandchildren, Jennie Jacobs, Adam Jacobs, Ryan Jacobs, Mistie Metten, Jason Metten and Brian Metten, as well as nine great-grandchildren, Landon Jacobs, Luke Jacobs, Madison Jacobs, Harrison Jacobs, Brady Jacobs, Ella Jacobs, Gavin Jacobs, Parker Metten and Logan Metten. Most recently, she was preceded in death by her step-son, John Metten and husband, Fred Metten.
At her request, there will be no formal services planned. Hamilton’s Funeral Home is assisting with her private family burial, which will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family c/o Linda Jacobs, 7815 SE Vandalia Drive, Runnells, IA 50237. Alice’s mother was a school teacher and she would be happy Alice wanted to establish college funds for her great-grandchildren.

Alice was a real sweetheart. I will miss her. I met her when I was cleaning her moms apartment at Valkey View.I looked forward to seeing her smile every morning at work ( valley view )My sympathy to her family.

Alice is now free of pain and can now stretch her legs.My mom, Maxine Cross, and Alice were roommates at the old Health Center at Valley View Village. She always had a smile. Rest in Peace Alice!
