James Hall

James Hall, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Mercy West Lakes Medical Center in West Des Moines.

James was born October 3, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY to Charles Hall and Thelma Tong. He joined the Army as a young man and during his enlistment, taught himself to read. After leaving the army, he was proud to have earned his GED in 1976. He was employed by Data General in New York from 1976 to 2000 as a computer technician in the electronics department. James moved to Des Moines in 2007 and became an active member of Word of Victory Church in Ankeny. He loved his family, was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing chess, dominoes, and cards.

James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Josephine Hall; son, Gareth (Fe) Hall; grandchildren, Mira (Zach) Current and Christian Hall; great-granddaughter, Braelynn Current; sister, Gloria Culley; brother, Charles Hall, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Lisabeth Hall; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Tong; father, Charles Hall; brother, LeRoy; and his son, Dexter Hall.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., with funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines.
