Larry Young

Larry Young, 75, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his home in Omaha.

Larry was born August 24, 1941, in Davenport, Iowa to Jesse and Ora Mae Young. He loved this cat children, but also enjoyed fishing, flying, NASCAR, drag races, Christmas, and collecting Rock Island trains which is what he rode on when he traveled to Wichita to visit his grandparents. He still has a working layout in the basement. At Christmas we would set up a complete Christmas village, with running train, in our bay window for us and the neighbors to enjoy. The outside of our house was a stand out in the neighborhood, even if it meant putting up the decorations on the coldest day of the year. He was still working as a Walmart greeter, making people smile when they saw his bright tennis shoes, and bow ties. He always did a high five with little children. He has that grandfather look about him.

Larry is survived by his wife, Gwena; his sister, Judy Cole (Jerry); his niece and nephew, Jackie and Jay and their children; and son, Randy Young, his wife and three children. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse and mother, Ora Mae Young.

No visitation. Cremation is being done by Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa. His resting place will always be in his wife's arms, where ever she may be.
