Manford Charles Meier passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the age of 94. He was born June 27, 1922, in Fort Dodge, IA to Zoe and Charles Meier. He was a man of simple means, strong convictions, love of family, and an abiding faith in God.

He was a member of the West Gate Adelphic Lodge for over 50 years and a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was also a teacher in the Des Moines Public School system and was instrumental in establishing the building trades class at East High School. He also served as the first instructor for the program. In addition to teaching, he was a bulk plant manager for Shell Oil. He served on the City of Des Moines Power Engineers Board for over 20 years.

Manford is survived by his children, Charles (Marcia) Meier of Morriston, Florida and Mary (Noel) Liechty of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren, Allison Meier, Erica Meier, Jennifer Boyers-Liechty, Megan St. Romain, and Jason Boyers-Liechty; great grandchildren, Anysa Meier, Aliyah St. Romain, and RJ St. Romain; sister, Barbara Prior; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Angela (Chiodo) Meier; parents; and sister, Patricia Francisco. He was also preceded in death by his two faithful companions, dachshunds, Sam and Meara.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm Friday, March 10, 2017, at Greenwood Friends Cemetery in Ankeny, IA. Per his wishes, no other memorial services will be held.

The family would like to thank Ramsey Village and Lisa Albright for the great care the last year, and the members and pastors at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
