Bernice Joan Williams

Bernice Joan (Dickens) Williams, age 83, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 4, 2017.

Bernice was born February 14, 1934, in Albia, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ray I. and Venus (Wassom) Dickens. She graduated from Valley High School in 1952. She belonged to St. John’s Lutheran Church and retired from Iowa Methodist Medical Center in 2000. Bernice was married to Kenneth E. Williams, Sr. on October 20, 1972.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, and two nieces. Bernice is survived by her sister, Donna Jean Hellums of Wichita, Kansas, two nieces, Karen Kay of Ames, Iowa and Carol Lea of Story City, Iowa, one nephew, Michael Hellums of Portland, Oregon, three great-nieces, two great-nephews, seven great-great-nieces, and two great-great-nephews.

There will be a visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitors will then proceed to Pine Hill Cemetery, 470 NW 54th Ave, Des Moines, where Bernice will be laid to rest beside her husband, Ken in a graveside committal service at 12:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed to a hospice organization of the donor’s choice in Bernice’s honor.
