Service Details

Thomas D Wheatly, 79, passed away October 24, 2006 at Taylor House in Des Moines.
Tom was a retired Ironworker and member of Ironworkers Local 67. He was an avid bowler and bowled in league competition at least twice a week. Tom was a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and East Gate Masonic Lodge. He served in the Marines and was a veteran of WWII and served during the Korean Conflict. Tom was a graduate of East High School in Des Moines.
He is survived by his mother, Ora Wheatly, his wife, Dorinne Kanis Wheatly, sons, Thomas L(Paulette) Wheatly, Jerry(Shirley) Wheatly, and Norman(Lori) Wheatly, daughter Sheryl(Gary) Lewis, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Brother, Jack(Ruby) Wheatly, Sisters Madeline(Don) Morey, Charlotte (Don) Cox, Deanna Peterson and Kathleen (Tom) Lutz Also, his step children, Renee(Richard) Lancaster, Bryan(Judy) Kanis, Deann(Tim) Eilers, Randy(Julie) Kanis, 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie of 43 years and his father Thomas E. Wheatly.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 27 at Zion Lutheran Church in Des Moines with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:30 -7:30 pm with a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm, on Thursday, October 26 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund.
