Joseph David Borchardt
February 23, 2017
Joseph David Borchardt, age 38, passed away suddenly on February 23, 2017. Joe was an Air Force veteran and started his military career as a loadmaster. He later completed pilot training to become a pilot on a C-130 cargo plane. He bravely served our country for 12 years and was deployed to many countries including Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan following 9/11/01.
Joe dearly loved his son, John (age 10) and cherished the time they spent together. Joe also loved the outdoors and adventure. Hiking, camping, fishing, and scuba diving were just a few of his hobbies. The family farm in northern Missouri held a special place in Joe’s heart. Riding on the tractor at a young age with his Grandpa Joe and helping out his Uncle Jack with work on the farm helped foster this love of family tradition and helped anchor him to his roots.
He was very involved with River of Life Church and was an active participant in Celebrate Recovery at Lutheran Church of Hope. Joe spent many hours volunteering and helping those who were less fortunate than himself and had recently gone on a mission trip.
He is survived by his son, John Borchardt; parents, W. David Borchardt and Mary Wells Borchardt; sisters, Amy (John) Borchardt Vieth and Emily (Chad) Borchardt Ermis; 5 nieces and a nephew, Julia, William, Elizabeth, Felicity, Sydney, Allison; and a large loving extended family. Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. A reception will follow.
Memorials may be directed to the family for his son’s education or to Johnston River of Life Church. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff and personnel at the VA Medical Center for the care they provided to Joseph.
Joe was a kind, smart, dedicated son, brother and father who made us all proud. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

I am so sorry to hear about Brother Joe passing. I just found out yesterday! He was a member of our Eagles Prayer Ministry and lived in my building. The last time I saw him when he came to Prayer he looked so good and had a glow! Lord Jesus, I Speak Peace to My Brother Family and love ones! You will be missed My Brother!

I meet Joe in the dorms at Dyess before I came in the service.i thought the world of him. I was stationed with him after I joined and was luckly enough to call him my friend. We had a lot of fun motorcycle rides together, camping trips and deployments. I will always miss my friend.

I flew with Joe several times. He was a true professional and loved his job. Some of my fondest memories of flying were with him. We would land from a 12 hour day and he would go back to the hotel and do homework. Truely a dedicated individual. RIP Joe.

Joe,
I remember working with you before you went off to pilot training and when you got back home. I knew you were going to do very well and have a good time doing it. I enjoyed watching you succeed and really miss flying with you. You were talented bud. You may not know it, but taught me life lessons that I will always cherish and hold close. This hurt. Until we meet again my friend.... Tailwinds!

To Joe's family and friends; my deepest condolences and sincerest prayers for healing go out to you.
I served with Joe in the 40th Airlift Squadron at Dyess AFB.
It was an HONOR serving with Joe. There are not enough words to describe Joe's sincere love of country and his fellow service members.
He had a sense of humor second to none, and was always one of the first to volunteer to help anyone out.
May he Rest In Peace.
Fly high, Brother Joe, and watch over the rest of us until we are reunited.
You were an inspiration to many. Love ya brother.

Joe was one of my first Airmen that I had the honor to supervise and work with when we were Loadmasters at Dyess AFB, TX. He was always ready with a joke or smile to make the crew or anyone laugh. I am honored to have served our country along side Joe for those years. Rest easy Airman.
