Elizabeth Dean, 79, was born in Pershing, Iowa, on August 10, 1937, to Gomer and Gladys Nichols. She passed away February 23, 2017, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
Liz was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. She married Dale Dean on June 28, 1957, at Marquisville United Methodist Church. Liz was a homemaker and was a volunteer cook at Camp Sunnyside for many years.
Liz was a member of Marquisville United Methodist Church. She loved camping, canoeing, boating, and shooting rifles when she was younger. Liz also enjoyed going to Prairie Meadows and the Highland Park Senior Center; bowling, playing cards, and solving puzzles.
Liz is survived by her children, Damon (Shawnee Filler) Dean, Dennis (Linda) Dean, and Dayton Dean; grandchildren, Stacie (Ryan) Young, Heather (Matthew) Wharff, Marie Dean, and Dakota Dean; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia (Dean) Mallory; as well as other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; son, Doug Dean; and siblings, Imogene Gurnea and Charles Nichols.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
