Clyde Earl Burks

Clyde Earl Burks passed away the day before his 80th birthday on Sunday, February 19, 2017. His memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 23, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with burial of cremated remains following at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Clyde was born in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Martha (Jones) Burks on February 20, 1937. He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Clyde was a scrapper and enjoyed scouring the junkyard for treasures. His family would affectionately call him an urban miner. He liked spending time camping and fishing. Clyde had a huge heart and was a very generous person. He was a gentle and caring man who always had a smile. He enjoyed people and especially loved children. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty (Streeter) Burks, brother, John (Delores) Burks, sisters, Ethel Burks, Margaret (Art) Gilbert and Tillie (Ken) Derrey, and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Burks and his brothers, Virgil Burks and David Burks.

I have such fond memories of Clyde from the time I was a young girl. He was always so kind and full of smiles. My family really appreciated and respected Clyde.
