Craig L. Eggleston
February 12, 2017
Craig Eggleston, 70, passed away at Taylor House Hospice on Sunday, February 12, 2017. Services will be held at Van Meter United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 16 with visitation at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Van Meter Cemetery.
Craig was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on October 25, 1946 to Kenneth and June Lamer Eggleston. He was educated in the Marshalltown Schools, graduating from high school in 1965.
Craig retired from the Engineering Department of the City of Des Moines in 2012 after serving 24 years as a Senior Construction Inspector.
He had many loves. His family was his greatest treasure and he was happiest spending time with them. Craig was a life-long fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially when they were winning! He was long-time fan of Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics and Johnny Unitas and the Baltimore Colts. It was always his dream to attend a Celtics game in the Old Boston Gardens. Craig’s most expensive loves were his Corvettes. He spent many happy hours at the Corvette Museum and the Assembly Plant. Craig also had a passion for coaching. He touched the lives of many young people through his son’s basketball teams; his daughter’s softball team and the Van Meter High School girls’ basketball team. He served as a mentor to many.
Craig is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Jeffrey (Jennifer) of Belle Plaine, Jacob and Zachary (Nichole) of Des Moines; five grandchildren; his brother, Steve (Cindy) of Norwalk; cousin, Ann (Don) Bracy of Union; and many nieces and nephews. Craig was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Kimberly.
Memorials may be directed to the Van Meter United Methodist Church in Craig’s name. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Donna and family; I was saddened to read of Craig's passing. We worked together for the City of Des Moines. Inspected many improvements at the airport together. A detail oriented inspector. I was happy to work with him, he would take care of the paper work and I would take care of the cylinder/beams castings and other on the ground work. Worked well for us. May the fond memories ease the sadness your hearts feel at this time.
