Joyce was born June 10, 1939, in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Bobbie Gladson. Her family was extremely important to her and she was very active in family life. She was known affectionately as the “5K Mom” as she had five children, all with names starting with the letter K. She enjoyed camping at the lake and vacationing in Arkansas. Joyce loved knitting and she spread love by knitting hats for hospitals for preemie babies and she was known world-wide for her knitted slippers. She was a member of the Golden Threads Group at the Southside Senior Center and enjoyed going on outings with family and friends. She also enjoyed attending craft shows and farmers’ markets.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Kim (Steve Wright) Eveland, Kathy (Danny) Short, Kelly (Randy) Cool, Kent (Helena) Casebolt, Kevin (Rick) Casebolt; step-children, Nancy (Steve) Boyd, Donie (Lori) Short; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Gladson; and many other family and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Short; son, David; brother, Eddie “Bud” Gladson; and her parents, Edwin and Bobbie Gladson.
According to Joyce’s wishes, cremation has occurred and there will be no public services held at this time. Please remember Joyce and celebrate her in your own way.
Memorial contributions would be appreciated to HCI Care Services, Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street, Des Moines, IA 50312 in recognition of their compassion and care for Joyce and her family during her final days.
