Service Details
Carroll D. Shissler, 85, passed away on February 7, 2017 in Des Moines. He was born May 11, 1931 in Colfax to Russell and Doris (Cox) Shissler. Carroll married Donna Jean Blood on March 11, 1954 in Ivy.
Carroll owned a service station and bar in Mitchellville and later went to work for the Department of Public Safety for the State of Iowa.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; children, Vickie (Jim) DeCamp, Rick (Sue) Shissler and Dianna (Gordon) Kusel; 9 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Laura Mae) Shissler; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Dean, Mike, Ron, Howard and Avis; and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Farrar United Methodist Church, 11180 NE 134th Ave, Maxwell with visitation from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home, 303 Center Ave S., Mitchellville. Burial will follow services at Mitchellville Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the family to go towards a cause close to Carroll’s heart.

Thank you for your husband, father, grandfather. In working with him years ago in the IA DPS, he was a fine co-worker and one of
"my" inspectors. Carroll dearly loved and was proud of his family. Memories will always remain.

Donna and family, So sorry to hear of Carroll's passing. I remember when he came to the Griswold School one time for an inspection. I gave him all kinds of crap - and he dealt it right back. What a Great man he was. May your fond memories help you and your family in the days ahead and may you feel God's comforting arms around you in your sorrow.

I remember Carroll as a larger than life man. Loved being a 'sleep over guest' with Vicky and eating ice-cream at night!! And what a great neighbour. We are so often blessed with wonderful people in our lives, and don't realize what an impact they've made until later on. To all of the Shisslers; I am so sorry for your loss. I am grieving with you. Carroll, you will be missed.
