Sandra "Sam" Ford
January 29, 2017
Sandra Ford “Sam”, age 69, passed away peacefully at home with her family on Sunday, January 29, 2017. She battled breast cancer and fought especially hard this past year. There will be a celebration of Sam’s life from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
Sam was born January 27, 1948, in Mason City, Iowa to Carrol and Dorothy Hurd. She was dedicated to her family and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She graduated from North High School, class of ’67, and worked at Rissman’s Auto Parts and Hawkeye Auto Supply. Sam loved her dog, Sugar, playing BINGO and singing karaoke, and she treasured her collection of pigs. She had a good sense of humor and would often come up with her own versions of songs, such as “Love Potion 69.” A generous and giving person, she took part in the organization Rusty Angels who collect money and school supplies for families in need.
Sam is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jack; children, Tom (Shelley) Ford and Robin Ford; grandchildren, Kody Ford, Kayla Ford, Kelcie Ford, Thomas Ford, Johnathan Akes, Jackson Ford and Quentin Ford; great-grandson, Masen Groce; brother, John (Karen) Hurd; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother, Clifford Hurd, and sister, Carolyn Chapman.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Sam.
Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
