Steven Ellis
January 27, 2017
Steven was born Steven Michael Farnsworth on May 13, 1967, to his mother, Carole in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed at home surrounded by family on Friday, January 27, 2017. He is finally at rest after a 3 ½ year-long courageous battle with cancer. His loving little sister Jodi was there to take his hand and lead him to their heavenly home.
Per Steven’s wishes, cremation has occurred. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm, Friday, February 3, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 4th, also at Hamilton’s.
Steven grew up on Des Moines’ Eastside where he remained his entire life. He attended McKee Elementary, Hoyt Middle, and East High Schools. He worked as a handyman for Ward’s Eastside Pharmacy and did yardwork and snow removal for many area residents and small businesses.
Steven enjoyed walking and bike riding. He loved tinkering with his new found treasures and had a talent for fixing anything that was broken. He had a great love for music, animals and children. He so enjoyed time spent with family and friends and he never missed a family reunion. He was a strong, brave, sweet and loving man. He will be greatly missed.
Steven leaves to cherish his memory his mother and stepfather Carole and Bill Raffensperger, his father Ronald Ellis, his two sons Jeremy Lund Ellis (Marina) and Zachary Ellis (Jasmine), his daughter Kelsey Ellis, five grandchildren, and three sisters Dawn Ellis (John), Kristen Ellis (Andrew) and Megan Raffensperger (Jesse). He was recently preceded in death by his loving sister Jodi Ellis Thomas.
The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Elsawy and Dr. Martens and their staffs, Mercy Hospice nurses Tammy Lehman and Kelly Bredehoest for the continued support and loving care they provided Steven and family during his illness. We also thank the Dream Foundation for making Steven’s wish to go to Branson possible.

This family is so much my family and always have been. Stevie was the sweetest little boy and grew up to remain the same sweet man. Carole you did a wonderful job at being his mother and I will never know how you have stood up to the loss of two of your children in such a short time. May God keep you in his arms and comfort you through this heartache.
