Marjorie Ellen (Schindler) Walker passed away on January 26, 2017, in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 102. She was born June 9, 1914, the youngest of six children, to August Frederick and Martha Jane (Clark) Schindler on their homestead farm on the Ponca Creek near the little town of Monowi in northeastern Nebraska. She lived with older sister, Bess in Detroit while attending high school, taught school in Monowi after graduation, then attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where she met her future husband, Harold Hubert Walker. They were married in 1937 and raised two sons, Harold Ronald born in1940 and Thomas Michael born in 1944, living briefly in Columbus and North Platte, and then settling again in Lincoln.

When her sons were established in school, Marjorie pursued a working career. She joined the Bankers Life of Nebraska insurance company in the 1950s and enjoyed a long and successful career, making many lifelong friends. After her retirement, she and Harold enjoyed time at home and travelled together until his passing in 1983. Marjorie continued to tend her beautiful garden and enjoyed many activities: bicycling, golfing and bowling with friends, painting, glass-blowing and ceramics. She treasured visits with her extended family and remained an active member of her sorority, Kappa Phi until she made the decision to move to Des Moines to be near son, Ron and his family in 2007.

Ron married Donna Lee Benson in 1958; he became an architect and Donna a nurse. They relocated to Des Moines, Iowa, where they raised their children, Diana Lee, Ronald Gregory, Mark Christopher and Devon Elizabeth, who passed away in her youth.
Marjorie’s son Tom relocated to San Francisco, California in his youth, enjoyed a long career in ocean shipping management and continues a happy retirement there.

Marjorie was a loving and beloved mother and grandmother to four generations: Greg and Camie are the parents of son, Gregory Nash and daughter, Kay. Nash and wife, Catie gave birth to Marjorie’s great great grandson John in April of 2015. Mark and wife, Noel are parents to daughters, Kylie and Hanna and to son, Gavin.
