David John Martineau 1954-2017
David John Martineau passed away peacefully on January 19, 2017 with his family surrounding him after suffering a traumatic brain injury in an automobile accident in Montana.
Dave was born in Cedar Falls, IA to Clyde and Dorothy Martineau, March 17, 1954. After graduating from High School in Rapid City, SD, Dave joined the US Air Force where he pursued his love for aviation, engineering and mechanics.
Dave met his beautiful wife, Brenda in 1976 and they married Nov 25, 1978. Dave and Brenda started their family in 1980 with the birth of their daughter, Heather Ann with Sarah Lynn, and Amber Dawn in quick succession in 1982 and 1983.
As with any military family, they hopped around the US until Dave’s retirement after 20 years at Lackland AFB, TX in 1993. They, then moved back to the Des Moines area to be closer to family.
In 2001 after Brenda was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, they relocated to Southern Idaho for Dave’s job, a place he always wanted to live to be closer to nature, as well as family friends.
Over the next fifteen years Dave and Brenda welcomed Son-in-Laws, Casey Law, Kyle McGraw and Chad Lint, followed by four granddaughters, Kathryn, Madison, Makayla, and Abagail. Dave’s first grandson, Sie John Kenneth Lint is due by mid Feb 2017.
In 2015, Dave retired from CenturyLink. His dream was to own his own land and build a self-sufficient life. That was just what he and Brenda did. Purchasing 12 acres of pristine wilderness in Northern Idaho.
Dave is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Anthony Martineau.
He leaves behind the wonderful women and girls he so cherished. His wife of 38 years, Brenda, daughters, Heather (Casey), Sarah (Kyle), and Amber (Chad). Granddaughters Kathryn, Madison, Makayla, Abagail, and grandson Sie (on the way). His dear mother, Dorothy and devoted sister, Ann (Terry) as well as innumerable nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be at Hamiltons Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 4:30 – 6:30 pm. As a cadet in the CAP Major Martineau helped teach me many things to aid in saving and helping others. He was one of the most selfless men that I have ever met. He always wanted others to be happy and would give the shirt off his back to make that happen. Many prayers your way.

What a wonderful tribute to your father! It sounds like you were fortunate to have a great role model that taught you how to chase all of your dreams! I know it is not easy to lose your dad, but know how fortunate we were to both have a great one. We will continue to keep him and all of you in our prayers.

I had the privilege of knowing this man, a good man, since I was in my teens. Always the voice of reason and a fair arm of justice, he was able to keep a family bound together through every trial by his seemingly indomnable will. He has successfully finished his race, and passed the baton to his children so that they may continue in his stead. I pray that we are able to fill the shoes that Dave has left for us. Dave, I am so sorry I couldn't be there during the moments you were in the most need. God bless, and enjoy a much deserved break from this world's labors. You are forever in our hearts.

A person that departs this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us - they live on. Dave was a wonderful man, husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed tremendously by all those he touched in his lives. May the Lord bless and comfort you and your family. *hugs*
