Rex Shroyer

Rex Shroyer, age 72, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away January 19, 2017. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 24th at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. Family will greet visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on January 23rd, also at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens.
Rex Dean Shroyer was born July 14, 1944 to Beryl and Frances (Raymond) Shroyer. He grew up on the family farm in rural Guthrie Center and attended school in a one room school house in Bear Grove Township and later attended Guthrie Center Schools. He worked construction early in life and then entered the transportation industry, where he drove for 36 years and was a dispatcher for 9 years. He married Patricia Caltrider in 1963 and four children were born of this union. He later married Linda Lovell on July 3, 1989.
Rex enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan. One of his favorite things was being alone in a truck, late at night listening to old time country music or just listening to the whine of the tires and hearing that big diesel engine working.
Rex is survived by his wife, Linda; his four children, Brenda (Lyle) Wilson, Matthew (Amber) Shroyer, Sheri Ward, Jason (Audra) Shroyer; step-children, Anthony Lovell and Lewis Lovell; grandchildren, Ashley (Kyler) Nielsen, Marissa Ward, Cherisse Ward, Brody Ward, Colton Shroyer and Savannah Shroyer; step-grandchildren, Michael Andersen, Steven Andersen, Misty Carico, Cheyenne Houser and Mylee Lovell; great-grandchild, Rylee Nielsen; step great- grandchildren, Eckoe, Chloe and Sydney; siblings, Lee Shroyer and Joanne Shroyer.
Rex is preceded in death by his parents, Beryl and Frances Shroyer, and a brother, Thomas Shroyer.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Rex.

What a great guy. Steve remembers Rex has a customer in the shop who always had a joke to tell him. I remember him as always saying something nice to me to make my day. Will miss him. Love to you Linda and family.
