Alice Mason
January 15, 2017
Alice Marie Kenworthy Mason, age 96, died Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Edgewater Skilled Nursing in West Des Moines. We who knew her well will miss her laugh, her wit, her common sense, and her sweet good humor.
Alice was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 3, 1920, the daughter of Bruce and Hasel Kenworthy. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1938, attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1942 with a degree in journalism.
Born with “an itchy foot,” she travelled the world to countries famous and obscure—Nepal, Irian Jaya, Tibet, Russia pre-1985, the interior of Eqypt, the Galapagos islands, Papua New Guinea. For 22 years she and her husband, Ron, spent the winter months on the west coast of Mexico in a gaily decorated one-bedroom flat facing the Pacific.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald; her uncle, Beryl Kenworthy (of Earlham); her son, Ronald E. Mason, Jr. (Rita) of Ankeny; her daughter, Linda Mason Hunter (Robert) of Des Moines; and many grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those wishing to honor Alice may do so with a donation to P.E.O.’s Educational Loan Fund, 3700 Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA 50312; 515-255-3153 (ask for Pat in the Treasurer’s office).

My condolences to the family of Mrs Alice Mason. I know this is a difficult time for you all, so I just want to to share an encouraging Scripture that helped me to cope with the pain when I lost my Mom. John 5:25-29, "Most truly I say to you, the hour is coming.....when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and all who have paid attention will live....they will come out to a resurrection of life."
