Eva Canon

Eva died November 27, 2007 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk. Funeral Services will be 10 AM Saturday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, with entombment at Resthaven cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Eva was born in Allendale, Mo to Bert and Lydia Lynch. She was wed to Herbert Canon in 1928 and together they farmed in Grant City, MO where they had two daughters, Betty and Bonnie. They moved to Des Moines in the 1940’s. and shortly after, they opened New Haven Rest Home on SW 9th. Herbert and Eva were charter members of the Iowa Nursing Home Association. and together they designed and built the first retirement home privately ran in the city. Eva established the daily patient care procedures which was adopted by the State of Iowa and written into code for all care facilities in the state. She was active in church summer bible camps, and helped with several missions in downtown Des Moines. She was an avid antique collector, gardner, and quilter.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Richardson of Norwalk; sister, Edna Peterson of Ankeny 4 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; 14 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Herbert; granddaughter, Cherry Robins; great grandson, Damon Bartling and daughter, Betty
