Grace Christine Basile

Grace Christine Basile, 82, passed away December 28, 2016. Visitation will be held Monday, January 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 3 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 703 S. 12th St. in Marshalltown, IA at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Veterans Cemetery in Marshalltown.

Grace, born May 28, 1934 in Oxnard, CA to Jessie (Stark) and Thomas Sims was true to her name. She was a woman full of grace, kindness, gentleness and love. She attended Hemet High School in California and then moved to the east coast. She met the love of her life, Vincent Basile in New Jersey and the couple moved to Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and then to Iowa most recently.

Grace was a wonderful wife, mother and Nana. She was dedicated to her family with her unconditional love, her wonderful sense of humor, and the leadership skills she exerted. She was just as comfortable at sporting events as she was in a sewing room. Along with spending time with her beloved family, she was happiest in her garden.

She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, Vince Basile; her children, Suzanne Morris, John (Dana) Holcombe, Jr., Deborah (Jerry) Leary, Tom (Wendy) Holcombe, Lissa Basile, Dani (Rob) Renaud and David (Amy) Holcombe; her 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Beth Basile; and her many other loving family members and friends. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Melba England, Raymond Sims and Shirley Gamel; her son, Vincent Basile, II; her granddaughter, Kelli Basile; and grandson, Brian Morris.
