Betty Jacobson
December 27, 2016
Betty Jacobson, formally of Mitchellville, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at the age of 91 at Calvin Community Care Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, December 30 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 31 also at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mitchellville Cemetery.
Betty was born December 20, 1925, in Jasper County to Roy and Mabel Griffioen. She graduated in 1943 from Cambridge High School and then worked at the Iowa Dept. of Transportation in Ames. On February 16, 1946, she married Harold (Jake) Jacobson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Betty and Jake lived for a time in Illinois before moving to Mitchellville and starting their own construction company where Betty was a bookkeeper. Betty loved playing golf, participating in bowling league, and going to Prairie Meadows. The activity Betty enjoyed the most, though, was her family. Betty’s only great-grandson was the light of her eyes! She loved being with him, seeing pictures of him, and the two shared a special connection.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristine Ballard of Mitchellville; granddaughter, Kari (Brad) Dudley of Swisher; great-grandson, Ryne Dudley; nephews, Phil (Paula) Roberts and Doug (Karen) Cross, as well as other loving family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; sisters, Frieda Cross and Ruth Roberts, both of Colfax; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mitchellville Fire Dept., Calvin Community Foundation, or The Preemie Project.
Online condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Christy, so sorry to hear about your mother. She was a grand lady in my eyes. Your grand parents that we lived across the street from us, gave us the opportunity to see your mom and you quit often. She will be greatly missed by many.
