Katherine "JoAnn" Thompson
December 25, 2016
Katherine “JoAnn” Thompson, age 82, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016, surrounded by the love of her family.
JoAnn grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from North High School. Throughout her childhood and adult life, she had the love and support of her extended family, Cecil and Mabel Burgett, and their daughters, Marvel Dolph, (JoAnn’s “bestest” friend), and Ellen Walker.
On December 3, 1955, she married Lyle A. Thompson in Des Moines, Iowa. She was an amazing, dedicated, giving mother to Alan Thompson and Shelby (Craig) Coady. JoAnn is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrea (Tyler) Smith and Nicholas Rivera who were blessed with her unconditional love and commitment and just when you thought she couldn’t love any more or care about anyone else as much as her grandchildren she became the ultimate great-grandmother to Joscelind, Logan, Skylar and Kennadie Smith, whom she loved and adored immensely.
For the past year, she lived with her granddaughter Andrea and her loving family who enhanced her life, comforted her in time of need, made her laugh, smile and were loyal companions who shared in her love of WWF/WWE and they even endured many hours of watching Texas Walker Ranger and Family Feud.
JoAnn is also survived by her sister Karen (Chris) Klisares; brother Lloyd (Ruth) Graham; step grandchildren, Chance, Dustin and Brittany Coady; and her step great-grandchild Talon Coady.
She was welcomed into heaven by her husband Lyle, mother Katherine Graham, step father Lloyd Graham and her mother and father in law Lillian and Clifford Thompson.
The family will greet friends Saturday, December 31, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. JoAnn will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery at a later date.

Aunt JoAnn was fun, loving, and generous. Her love of family was strong and she was so proud of her kids! She was my friend and we enjoyed many conversations and memories. I loved her very much and am so sad she is gone. My condolences to the entire family.
