Hazel “Kathy Wade-Smothers, 72, passed away on December 22, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 20, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mom is survived by her husband, Homer; daughters, Madison and Jayden Wade of Grimes, IA, Michelle (Jason) Brummond of Omaha, NE, Renee Berry of Bouton, IA, Crystal (Robert) Acosta, and Angela (Jason) Roefer of Des Moines, IA; son, Dustin Smothers of Story City, IA; grandchildren, Chantell (Travis) Irvin of Bouton, IA, Anthony Ennenga of Des Moines, IA, Leticia Acosta, Candelaria Acosta, Kassandra Acosta, and Chance Acosta of Des Moines, IA, Conor Smothers of Story City, IA, Caleb and Luke Roefer of Des Moines, IA, Jersey Brummond of Omaha, NE, and James (Dillion) Wicker of Pleasant Hill, IA; great-grandchildren, Chailynn, Chole, Chase, Chandler, Cheyenne, and Chazmin; and two more great-grandchildren on the way; siblings, Jan (Ronald) Gillum of Des Moines, IA, Phyllis Hansman of West Des Moines, IA, Gerry (Ken) Masimore of Omaha, NE, James (Sandy) Wade of Ramona, CA, Ralph Wade of Ontario, CA, and Debbie (Ken) Portsche of Johnston, IA.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel E. Wade; father, James E. Wade; grandson, Jesse D. Wicker; two angel great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
