Merle Hartwig

Merle Hartwig, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Methodist Hospital. Merle Floyd was born on June 23, 1929 to Ella (Danner) and Perry Hartwig in Mantua Township, IA.
Merle lived in What Cheer for a while and settled in Des Moines in 1949. Merle was a carpenter for over 30 years for Jewett H Lumber and worked at Mercy Hospital in maintenance for 7 years before retiring in 2005. Merle enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and reminiscing about old times. He treasured the time he spent with grandsons, Skyler, Aaron and Cameron. He lived in Norwalk, IA. the past four years with his daughter, Brenda Fisher.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Brenda Fisher and son, Ed Baker; brother, Larry Hartwig; and other loving family and friends.

merle worked for us in the 80s and 90s taking care of our maintenance and handyman work on each new home that we built. When I first started learning about the maintenance and repairs on houses I worked with Merle daily and learned a lot from him. I've missed merle since then and tried to look him up as I knew he lived on the southside of Des Moines but could not find him. I am sorry for your loss he will be greatly missed
