Julia "Judy" Lyon Williams
November 29, 2016
Julia “Judy” V. Williams, 75, died December 3, 2016 at her residence in Barefoot Bay, FL, after a 16-month battle with cancer. She had a wonderful quality of life to the end.
Born in Dublin, GA on September 4, 1941, Julia was raised in New London, CT, and spent most of her life caring for others as a nurse, wife, mother, and friend in Des Moines, IA. Most remembered for being direct, honest, and having the best sense of humor, Julia took pride in her work as a nurse, her service to the American Legion Auxiliary, and as a devoted grandmother.
She leaves behind her three beloved children, Meredith E. Williams, Jr. (Jackie), Mary-Ann Isenholt (Maxwell), and Linda Casas (Rich), and nine grandchildren Michael, Alexis, Carter, Jackson, Jerome, Julia, Isabel, Riley, and Matthew. She will also be deeply missed by her siblings: Harriet Hall, William Lyon, Patty Ready, Peter Lyon, Barbara Lyon-Finney, Betty-Lou Goodwin, and Michael Lyon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Meredith E. Williams, Sr., and her parents, William and Hilda Lyon, and Ann Champney Lyon.
A visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, on December 10, 2016, from 1 – 4pm followed directly by a celebration of life at The Longest Yard, 122 5th St, West Des Moines from 5 – 7pm.
Because she was so well-loved wherever she went, additional celebrations of life will be planned in the other places she called home: Barefoot Bay, FL, and Charlestown, RI. More information will follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.

I just saw the post about Julie on FB. I am so sorry to hear this. My heart hurts. We had so much fun together at DMGH. Raising our kids, being friends, having ftiends, not just people we just worked with. She will always be in my heart & mind. I live in Ames now, & rarely get to DM. I am glad she got to live in Florida, and I pray her last months were peaceful.

Every large family has complicated relationship, ours was no different. My sister Judy was the bridge that crossed every divide. She was the second child but she was more like the center of the family. She was as unique as she was straightforward and if you met her once you would never forget her. I loved her, we all loved her and we will all miss her.

I worked with Julie at the Methodist Day Care, where I was the secretary.
I found her to be full of life and if you ask her opinion she gave it, and I loved that about her. May she rest in peace now that she is with her husband and parents.

Judy, was my idol when I was young always spent my time looking up to her and she was so beautiful inside and out.. I always loved her laugh and even though we went our separate ways in life when I stayed out west I will always remember her as a fond part of my childhood.. I am so glad I went to the family reunion wish I had spent more time.. I know in my heart she will make the Best Angel in Heaven and we will be together again in the future.. I Love you, and my Love for her children is sent your way.. Aunt Barbara
