Velma Jean Johnson, 71, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016.
Velma was born September 22, 1945 in Mystic, Iowa, to William and Nellie (Phelps) Salasberry. She was very involved in her church, Heritage Assembly of God, and was a beloved Sunday School teacher.
Velma is survived by her husband of 22 years, Bud Johnson; and her children, Candace (JoAnn) Gerling, Steve (Rebecca) Gerling, Bill (Twyla) Johnson, and Connie Daly. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Angela, Amy, Jessica, Tyler, Chris, Tiffany, Jacob, Joe, Amanda, Shelly, Missy, and Little Kenny; her great-grandchildren, Gracie, Avery, Brandon, Emma, Emma, Micah, and Rachel; her siblings, Pat (Doug) Gibford, Gene Salasberry, Lawrence (Lin) Salasberry, Albert (Doris) Salasberry, and Debbie (Bruce) Simmons; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nellie Salasberry; her siblings, Elmer Salasberry, Mary Thomas, Richard Salasberry, Junior Salasberry, and Betty Truby; her first husband, William Gerling; and her step-son, Randy Gerling.
Velma’s funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, December 5, 2016, at Heritage Assembly of God, 5051 NE 5th Street, Des Moines, IA 50313, with burial to follow at Pleasantville Cemetery in Pleasantville, Iowa. Family will greet guest two hours prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Velma.

Bud, I am sorry about your loss just remember she is not in pain or suffering and she is with the Lord now and one day you will meet again as I know no words can take the pain away but trust in the lord and have him guide you for strength and he will give you strength in this time. Bud, Our hearts are breaking for you and your family for your loss as it is also our lost as we will miss our sister in Christ. We love her so much but know she is no longer hurting and she is healed. Keeping you and the family in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
