Daniel Reece

Daniel R. Reece Jr., 84, passed away November 22, 2016 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. He was born in Ames, on January 30, 1932 to Daniel Sr. and La Verne (Walsh) Reece.

Dan was a High School All American, All State swimmer and was inducted into the North High School sports Hall of Fame. He was a Personnel Officer on the destroyer USS Hale during the Korean War. He enjoyed watching John Wayne westerns and any type of war movies. Dan loved telling stories to his children, grandchildren and anyone who would listen. Dan enjoyed fishing, had a love for animals and was a true Cubs baseball fan. Above all, Dan’s true love was his wife, Marla, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Daniel is survived by his, daughters; Anne (Dan) Sweeney and Judy (Kerry) Abel, sons; David (Jan), Michael (Kim) and Thomas (Stacy), grandchildren; Christina Klinkenberg, Carri Camp, Spencer Sweeney, Valerie White, Dianna Hollinrake, Jordan and Benjamin Reece, Michaella and Rebecca Reece, great grandchildren; Shawn and Stephanie Klinkenberg, Adrianna Camp, Nathan Camp, Caitlyn Hollinrake, Samantha White, Conner Hollinrake and Brayden Camp. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Marla; sister, Helene Cole and his parents.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.
