John Wahl

John Wahl, 53, passed away under hospice care on Friday, November 18, 2016, at his home in Des Moines. He was born May 6, 1963, in Des Moines, the son of Harold and Mary Ann Wahl.
John married Sonia Burns on September 1, 1990. He was an outdoorsman who loved camping and fishing. John enjoyed music, mostly classic rock & roll, but some modern as well. He was a Dowling alumni and avid Iowa State and Kansas City Chiefs fan.
John is survived by his wife, Sonia; children, Robert and Elizabeth; mother, Mary Ann; siblings, Jim (Joan) Wahl, Tom (Kathy Dice) Wahl, Robert (Mary Ann) Wahl, Bill Wahl, and Dan Wahl; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Rupp, Crystal Velez-Greenhill, Joanna Velez, Teresa Wahldice, James Wahldice, and Katy Wahl; as well as many other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; sister, Madonna Velez; and uncle, Father Jim Rasmussen.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines.

John was a huge part of my early life. Holy Trinity and Dowling and many afternoons and evenings in between. Such a big loss for the Wahl family and us all. Love you Brother may you Rest In Peace.

We had a lot of really great times with John in grade school/high school. A great friend and wonderful person. He would give you the shirt off his back if you asked him for it. My condolences to his family. I know he will be missed.
