Dennis L. Neff
November 11, 2016
Dennis Lee Neff (Denny) passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016, in Des Moines, IA. He was born November 2, 1939, to Virgel and Inez (Hailey) Neff in Grand River, IA and grew up on a farm outside Grant City, MO.
After high school, Denny followed his brother Don to Des Moines. Once there, he met the love of his life, Judy (Overton). They were married August 15, 1964 and welcomed their two sons, Scott and Cory into their lives in the following few years. The family lived in Altoona and in 1980 completely renovated a century farmhouse just south of town. It was a labor of love and the family will always cherish the memories shared there.
Denny worked as a mechanical engineer for Armstrong/Pirelli/Titan Tire for over 30 years and then had his own heating and air conditioning business. Through the years he was active in the Jaycees, Altoona Masonic Lodge and DeMolay. Denny was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed tinkering on anything mechanical. He loved spending time with his family, sitting on his deck enjoying the weather and playing with his Jack Russell terrier, Joey. He was a very caring and giving man, always willing to help anyone in need.
Denny is survived by his loving wife, Judy (Overton); sons, Scott (Deb) Neff and Cory (Julie Cizek) Neff; grandchildren, Caleb, Hannah, Elizabeth and Emily; brother, Jim (Phyllis) Neff; sister, Marilyn (Jim) Neff-Fulcher; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Neff.
Denny will be greatly missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with burial at Altoona Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Lung Association.

Denny was a great uncle. He would tease with us kids and get us all wound up then be in trouble with our parents or Judy. We would be bouncing off the walls and creating all kind of havoc. I remember babysitting for Scott and Cory (yes I am that old) and I remember that Denny was my first crush as a kid and I remember saying I was going to marry him. He will be remembered with fond thoughts and missed dearly. RIP

Aunt Judy, you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Uncle Denny was always a great help and one of the smartest men I knew- he could fix anything and I always appreciated his advise. He will be missed.
