John Hutchison

John A. Hutchison, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Valley View Village, in Des Moines. John was born on July 11, 1925 in Earlham where he attended school. After moving to Des Moines he worked for Firestone from 1945 until his retirement in 1985.

John was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Local 310 URW, Economic Club and Highland Park Little League. As his grandchildren grew up, he was very involved in their school and sports activities. Family was very important to him as well as his friends and neighbors. John enjoyed working outdoors and loved to travel.

John is survived by his daughter, Jo Ellen O’Neal; granddaughters, Tricia (Scott) Christensen and Felicia (Garrett) Moe; great-grandchildren, Meadow, Willow, Dexter and Juliette; sister, Kay Trimble; and longtime companion, Iona Vernon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia; brothers, Chuck and Earl; sisters, Ruth and Alice; sons, Dennis and Jeff; and daughter, Kathryn.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Earlham Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
