He joined the Navy in 1944, after being convinced to first graduate from High School by his father. A life-long resident of Iowa, he spent his last few years in the Park Ridge Care Facility in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. In 1949, he met a young woman named Frances Hall they married a year later on May 27, 1950. To their union were born 7 children. Ardin was employed at a lumber yard and as an appliance repair technician and several other occupations prior to obtaining a position with the US Postal Service as a Rural Route Mail Carrier. When he was 62 he retired from the US Postal Service. While working for the US Postal Service, he and his wife opened Rising Sun Grocery Store, a small country store in Rising Sun, Iowa. When Ardin returned from the Navy in about 1949, I was 9 years old. So, yes, he was the "older" brother. When he came home in that black Packard (one seat, no back seat) he took Mom, Dad, Leonard and me to Missouri to buy fireworks, which was fine, except Leonard and I were in the trunk of the car all the way down and back home. Boy, we wouldn't do that today, would we! Great memories. I loved him a lot

Ardin was my hero. I remember the day he arrived home from Montana when he got out of the Navy. He had a 1936 Packard business coupe. He was slim and trim and a real "hero" to a kid. I have wished many times we would have lived closer. Rest in peace Ardin. You were loved greatly.
