A Celebration of Life Gathering for Steve D. Allison, 78, will be held at Stoney Creek Convention Center on November 20, 2016 at 1pm to 4pm. Memorial contributions can be made to: American Cancer Society. Steve was born on June 16, 1938 He departed from this life on November 9, 2016. After a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Steve was born to Wilhelmina (Steinbach) and Irvin Allison at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Ia. Steve met the love of his life Beverly Fidler at the age of 13. They were married on July 13, 1957 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines. Side by side, becoming as one for 65 years, forging a union that few have experienced. To this union they had three children, twin sons Dave and Steve, and a daughter Mary Lynn.
Steve grew up in the Highland Park area. Attended All Saints and Dowling High School where he enjoyed participating in track and lettering for four years. He graduated in 1956. Steve work at John Deere as a Supervisor, starting 1956 until his retirement 1986. Steve and Bev lived in Des Moines before moving to the Granger area. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed working with his sons wrestling team. Steve and Bev competed in canoe racing forming a fierce mixed couple’s team! Winning many championships in the 70’s. In the late 70’s and early 80’s Steve and Bev were avid runners competing in many 5k, 10k, and Drake Marathon. He also enjoyed camping, skiing, and travelling with his wife and children. Prior to retiring Steve suffered with leukemia and was one of the pioneering Bone Marrow Transplant Recipients in Iowa City in 1980. Surviving 36 years. Having his sister as his donor. After retiring they would enjoy many summer vacations with their grandchildren. The past several years Steve and Bev would spend their winters in Biloxi, MS. In which they enjoyed very much. Returning in the spring to work around the house always busy always together until the end.
Steve is survived by his wife Beverly of 59 years. Children: David (Misti) Allison, Stephen Allison (Joni Bell), Mary Lynn (Mitch) Fortune. Siblings: Diana Campbell, Mark (Myrna) Allison. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a private family service. He will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Gardens.
