Kathleen Day
November 05, 2016
Kathleen Day passed from this life, in her home and after a lengthy illness, on Saturday, November 5, 2016. She was surrounded by the love of many family and friends.
Kathleen was born on July 17, 1926, in Pratt, Kansas. She graduated from Pratt High School and from the St, Luke’s School of Nursing in Kansas City, where she became an R.N. She took great and justifiable pride in her accomplishments at St. Luke’s and was the supervisor of the very first Recovery Room in the history of the hospital. Kathleen married Robert Day on August 14, 1955. She worked as a professional nurse until 1957 and then became a homemaker. Kathleen was always thoughtful, gracious and supportive, with the kind heart and keen perception of a nurse. She continued to use her professional skills over the years by caring for many family members during times of illness.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ora Weikal; her sisters, Amy Springer and Jean Nations; and a nephew, Mack Nations. Left to treasure her memory are her husband, Robert Day; son Steve Day (Deb); and sister-in-law, Carolyn Skelton (John). Kathleen took great delight and pride in her granddaughter, Melissa Krumm (Daniel) and their children, David and Lindy; and grandson, John Day (Molly) and their daughter, Penelope. She also loved and enjoyed her nieces, Jane Niday, Kathy Beamer, Anne Thomson and Sarah Dinsmore; and her nephews Mike Nations and John Springer. She was loved and supported by many loyal friends, but most notably by Lorna Pieres and Virginia Schneider, who were especially dear to her heart.
Kathleen’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 1, at Heartland Presbyterian Church; 142nd and Hickman. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Presbyterian Church or Mercy Hospice. Condolences may be expressed online at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Bob:
You, Kathleen, and your family have been in my heart and prayers for the last several weeks. I cannot make the Heartland celebration, but I know it will be comforting and uplifting. I share in the grief for the light we can no longer see in this world. I rejoice that she is shining in the next.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Kat provided many fond memories as I was growing up. Her kindness touched many through the years. She was always there to help my Mom and Dad. Her spirit will continue to live through all of us.
