Service Details

Louise Mary Erickson, 91, most recently of Urbandale, died on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Kavanaugh Hospice House in Des Moines. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 7 at Iowa Veterans’ Cemetery in Van Meter. A memorial service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Urban Heights Covenant Church in Urbandale.

Louise was born on March 31, 1925 in Des Moines and adopted in infancy by John Arthur and Louise Holsman. She attended Roosevelt High School and Drake University while living in the home of Dr. Nelle Noble. During World War II, she served in the Signal Corps in Washington, D.C. After graduation from Drake, she married Bernhard Erickson on November 22, 1947.

Louise taught 4th and 6th grades in the Des Moines public schools. In March of 1954 she and Bernhard moved to a farm in Pocahontas County. They moved again to a farm in Lucas County in 1976 and then to Osceola when Bernhard retired from farming. In 2007, they moved to Norwalk.

Louise worked for about ten years for Lucas County Home Health Agency. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading and spending time with her family.

Louise is survived by five children, Alice (Chris) Dahle, Paul (Nancy) Erickson, Ruth (Ken) Johnson, Carol (Dan) Buren, and Joanie (Steve) Johnson; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a half-sister, Lorene Pfrimmer, and great-grandson, Owen Roberts.
