Richard “Dick” Vernon McCoy, 85, peacefully passed away on November 2, 2016, nine short months following the death of his bride in January. Dick spent his last days at the Des Moines VA surrounded by his friends and loved ones.

Richard was born in Dunning, NE on July 2, 1931, to Selma (Coon) and Martin Mervin McCoy. Dick was the oldest of 5 siblings, Bob, Gary, Sharon, Rosanne and Lamoine. Dick served in the U.S. Army from January 1, 1948 through May 12, 1952 was injured in action during the Korean War and received the Purple Heart.

Dick’s first marriage was to Marilyn in 1952-1968 and they had 6 children, Brock, Rick, Marty, Brenda, Shelly, and Troy. Dick married the love of his life Rosalie Jean Aguiniga on February 24, 1975 and was married for 41 years. Dick and Rosalie raised 6 children Mary, Debbie, Richard, Tony, Lori and Lisa and several grandchildren.

Dick’s faith and family values were most important to him and were his purest attribute. He was a devout patriot and friend and lived for all of those around him. He ensured that all of his many nieces, nephews and grandchildren knew how much they were loved. Very rarely did you see Dick without one of his grandchildren or his dog and best friend Snuggles.

Dick is survived by his siblings, Gary (Jackie) McCoy, Sharon (Craig) Abegglen, and Lamoine McCoy; his children, Brock (Donna) McCoy, Marty (Cindy) McCoy, Rick (Madeline) McCoy, Brenda (Marty) Hoover, Shelly McCoy, Troy (Jennifer) McCoy, Mary Paredes, Debra (Kevin) Stagers, Lori (Dan) Senecaut, Lisa (Dan) Archer, Richard (Lidia) Brown, and Tony (Cindy) Brown; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Selma and Martin McCoy; wife, Rosalie; brother, Bob McCoy; and sister, Roseann Wlaschin.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
