Doris "Doty" Jean Gandy

Doris “Doty” Jean Gandy, 63, passed away due to Stage IV lung cancer on October 15, 2016. She was born February 17, 1953, in Des Moines to Wayne and Mary (Hamling) Gandy.

Doty graduated from the first RN program offered by DMACC in 1974. She was an NICU nurse at Methodist Hospital and recently did pediatric home care nursing.


Doty enjoyed the natural beauty of monarch butterflies and their habitats, travelling, shopping, knitting and wearing her seasonal sweaters. She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Gandy; her father, Wayne Gandy; and her sisters, Janis and Joan Gandy.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary.

Celebration of life will take place from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
