Virginia "Gin" Mastin

Virginia “Gin” Lee (Young) Mastin, age 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, October 10, 2016.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines on Sunday, October 16, 2016. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by her funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Rising Sun Cemetery after the funeral.

Virginia was born on October 7, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa to Virgil and Esther (Greif) Young. She was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Virginia married Gerald Mastin on February 28, 1953. She enjoyed gardening and loved tending her flowers and tomatoes. She was very active and was always out and about. She enjoyed going to Prairie Meadows. Virginia loved her Diet Coke, gum, and Oatmeal Crème Pies.

She is survived by her siblings, Bill Young, Linda Young, and Donna Young; grandchildren, Joe Mastin, Jena Villines, and Tiffany (Wesley) Biwott; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Alyssa, Haley, Joey Jr., Joseph, Leah, and Lillian; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; daughter, Connie Mastin; son, Mike Mastin; nine siblings; and her parents, Virgil and Esther Young.
