I met Ms. Amend at Merrill Jr. High. She was the first teacher that I had that was interested in building a relationship with students. I remember her telling us that she could not work a stapler, this made us laugh and relate to her. She formed an after school group where we could we could talk and feel supported, I know she loved us. She was a bright light in my life. She had a positive saying on the board every day my favorite was Inch by inch life is a chinch, yard by yard life is hard This phrase got me through college, my masters in education. I am now an art teacher and have my first teaching job. I wish I had been able to tell her that I am a teacher now because of her positive example back then. I will miss her as I know many other will too.

Anna was a special lady! My sisters and I visited with her and Margy one year. I've been to see her at Deerfield twice. Her smile was awesome. Last year she knew I looked familiar but had to be reminded. That's OK. Wish I would have known the service was later. I would have come. Would love to have met her children. I have wonderful pictures of her from the 4 days there with my sisters. May God comfort you in your grief. Your mom will be singing and playing the harp in a much better place.
